Schlage Locksmith in Memphis, NY | Novak Lock & Security

We provide independent Schlage locksmith service across Memphis, from deadbolt replacements to smart lock installs. The one thing that makes our Schlage work here different: we know which hardware survives this city’s humidity and which doesn’t, because we see it fail on a predictable schedule every summer. Call (331) 310-8471 for a firm price before anyone is dispatched.

Why Memphis Residents Choose Us for Schlage Service

Daniel Novak has been working New York City doors and cylinders for going on two decades. He learned the trade at Queensborough Community College, apprenticed under a retired locksmith who serviced Midtown commercial accounts, and built this company on straightforward residential work. That means when we show up to a Memphis home with a Schlage B60 that won’t throw, we’ve seen that exact failure hundreds of times. We know Schlage’s generation changes, what crosses over and what doesn’t, and we’re not guessing. We stock genuine Schlage cylinders and tailpieces for the B60 and F-series lines, so most jobs are done in one visit. We’re an independent locksmith. Not a factory affiliate, not a call center dispatching subcontractors. The name on the van is the same name on the invoice.

Common Schlage Locksmith Problems We Solve in Memphis

Common Schlage Locksmith Problems We Solve in Memphis
  • B60 deadbolts that won’t fully extend. In Midtown and Vollintine-Evergreen, summer humidity swells the door frame enough that the latch hits the strike plate instead of seating behind it. The lock isn’t broken. The frame moved. We realign the strike plate, shim it, and install top screws into the frame so it holds.
  • F-series keypad levers with sluggish thumb-turns. We see this on original 1-3/8″ doors in Midtown bungalows. Humidity swells the lock body. The thumb-turn gets stiff, the motor strains, and eventually the lever binds. Sometimes it’s a tailpiece swap. Sometimes the lock body is done.
  • Encode smart locks losing Wi-Fi after summer storms. Memphis gets hard power blinks during thunderstorms. The Encode loses its connection and the door-position sensor drifts. Recalibrating the sensor fixes most of these, but if the board is fried, we’ll tell you honestly and recommend replacement over a board repair that won’t hold.
  • Key-in-lever knobs on rental properties with frozen pin tumblers. Tenants lubricate locks with WD-40, which hardens over time and gums the pins. South Memphis and Frayser rentals have this in abundance. We rekey these to fresh pins and proper lubricant, which usually restores the cylinder without replacing the whole knob.
  • Strike plates and frames too deteriorated to hold a deadbolt. Decades of deferred maintenance in South Memphis and Binghampton means the wood around the strike plate is often split or rotted. A new Schlage deadbolt is only as good as the frame it bolts into. We reinforce before we install, and we show you photos of what we found.

Schlage Service in Memphis: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s a checkable fact about Memphis that shapes Schlage repair work here more than any other factor: this city’s humid subtropical climate causes wooden door frames in Midtown and Vollintine-Evergreen to swell so much each summer that many Schlage B60 deadbolts won’t throw fully. The seasonal call spike across Zip 38104 is more predictable than any lock shortage. Homeowners call us in June through September thinking the lock failed. It didn’t. The frame absorbed moisture, expanded, and pushed the strike plate out of alignment. In winter, the same frames contract, and the lock works again, until the next humid season. What that means for Schlage owners: if your deadbolt sticks in summer and frees up in winter, the lock is probably fine. The frame needs work. We shim strike plates with teak strips, which resist moisture better than pine, and we set the plate so the deadbolt seats clean even when the frame moves. That’s the kind of adjustment you won’t get from a big-box install and it’s why we keep teak strips on the van.

Schlage Models & Products We Service in Memphis

Schlage Models & Products We Service in Memphis

We work on the Schlage hardware most Memphis homes actually have: B60 deadbolts, F-series handlesets and keypad levers, Encode and Encode Plus smart locks, and Everest 29 S123 keyway cylinders. We stock genuine Schlage cylinders and tailpieces for widely owned B60 and F-series hardware, and we use aftermarket high-tolerance drivers and springs when rekeying saves you money without cutting corners on security. For Encode electronics beyond a battery or tailpiece swap, we recommend replacement rather than a board fix that’ll fail again. If you need a part we don’t stock, we source it locally and tell you the ETA before we schedule anything.

FAQs - Schlage Locksmith in Memphis

Can a Memphis locksmith replace only the Schlage cylinder without buying a whole new deadbolt?

Yes. If the deadbolt body is in good shape, we replace just the cylinder and tailpiece, which runs $45 to $80 for most Schlage B60 and F-series locks. You keep the existing housing and keys change. Call (331) 310-8471 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether your lock is a cylinder-swap candidate.

Will a Schlage smart lock work on my 90-year-old Midtown door with a mortise lock?

Usually, with modification. Original mortise locks from the 1920s and 1930s don’t accept standard cylindrical smart lock bodies. We can install a Schlage Encode on a door with an original mortise lock only by boring the door for a standard cylindrical prep, which changes the door permanently. Some homeowners want that. Many don’t. We’ll tell you the truth before we cut anything.

Why does my Schlage deadbolt stick in summer but work fine in winter?

Your door frame is swelling. Memphis’s humid subtropical summers push moisture into the wood, the frame expands, and the deadbolt can’t seat clean. In winter the frame contracts and the problem disappears. The fix is realigning and shimming the strike plate, not replacing the lock. Call (331) 310-8471 and ask for a frame check.

Can you rekey all the Schlage locks in my rental to one key without changing the deadbolts?

Yes. We do this routinely for Memphis landlords, especially in South Memphis and Frayser where tenant turnover drives rekeying volume. We rekey all cylinders to a single key at $25 to $45 per cylinder, written in a line-item quote before we start. Bring us a competitor’s quote and we’ll review it free.

Do you service Schlage electronic locks that lose connection after power outages?

Yes. Most Encode Wi-Fi drops after a Memphis storm are fixed by recalibrating the door-position sensor, which takes about 20 minutes. If the board is damaged, we’ll tell you that repair isn’t worth it and quote a replacement. Either way, the phone quote is the final price.
