Abloy Emergency Locksmith in New York City: What to Know First
We provide independent Abloy emergency locksmith service across New York City, with most calls answered by a live person and a technician dispatched the same hour. Typical Abloy emergency work - lockouts, broken key extraction, jammed or frozen cylinders, and post-break-in entry repairs - is quoted in writing before we roll a truck, and the price on the phone is the price on the invoice. Haven Standard Clause 1 has been that simple since 2002. If your Abloy lock won’t turn, won’t release, or swallowed half a key at 2 a.m., call (331) 310-8471 and you’ll get a straight answer about what it will cost before anyone leaves the shop.
Daniel Novak and our team field Abloy emergency calls from every borough, from Astoria apartments with Protec2 deadbolts on the front door to Park Slope brownstones running Abloy rim cylinders on a back gate. We know what fails on these locks, why it fails, and what it takes to fix it without turning a $300 repair into a $900 replacement. That’s what this page is for.
How Abloy Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- Protec2 cylinders that won’t turn after years of weather exposure. The Protec2 (and the older Protec) uses a rotating disc mechanism instead of pin tumblers. When New York City road salt, humidity, and temperature swings push fine grit past the keyway shutter, the discs bind. We open the cylinder, solvent-clean the disc stack, re-lubricate with a dry PTFE film, and test with the owner’s key and a backup. Replacement is rarely necessary.
- Protec2 keys that snap at the shoulder. Abloy keys are machined from nickel silver and cut deep. The shoulder - the thick base where the key meets the bow - is a real stress point, especially on keys that hang from a ring with nine other keys. We extract the broken blade on-site and either originate a new key if a code card is present, or decode and cut from the lock itself. Factory OEM key blanks only, never aftermarket copies that measure a few thousandths out and shear inside the cylinder.
- Sentry and Profile door cylinders that seize after superstorm flooding. We’ve rebuilt several Abloy Sentry cylinders in Red Hook and the Rockaways after saltwater intrusion. The steel disc spacers rust, swell, and lock the stack solid. The fix is a full teardown, spacer replacement from our OEM parts kit, and a reassembly that restores the original disc spacing. This is a bench job, not a field job - so we swap in a loaner cylinder while yours is rebuilt, and quote that swap before we start.
- Deadbolts that throw but won’t retract when the handle is turned. On Abloy’s newer deadbolt assemblies, the tailpiece from cylinder to bolt wears at the flat edge. When it rounds over, the bolt throws outward fine but the tailpiece slips when you try to retract it. A homeowner ends up locked out of their own apartment with the key spinning uselessly. We replace the tailpiece with a factory-spec part, not a generic stamped one, and time the cylinder to the bolt body so the throw and retract hit full stroke.
- Abloy padlocks on roll-down gates that freeze in New York City winters. The classic PL340 and PL350 padlocks on storefront roll-downs collect water in the shackle hole. When temperatures drop, everything freezes solid. We open them without cutting the shackle when possible, dry the core, and replace the internal moisture seal. If the padlock has been cut off before, we’ll tell you - and we’ll recommend re-keying to a fresh Abloy cylinder rather than reusing a butchered body.
Our Abloy Emergency Locksmith Process

- 1
You call, a person answers. No menu, no voicemail. You describe the lock, the neighborhood, and what happened. We ask for a photo by text if it’s safe and useful.
- 2
You get a written price before dispatch. The dispatcher quotes the job right then, including the service call, labor, and any likely parts. That’s the number. The technician is not permitted to change it at the door - that rule has been in place since 2002.
- 3
The technician arrives, uniformed and background-checked. They identify the Abloy model and series before touching anything, and they tell you what they see: cylinder condition, key wear, strike alignment, and whether the lock is worth saving or should be replaced.
- 4
The repair happens with the right parts. OEM Abloy components where it matters - cylinders, tailpieces, keys, disc spacers. Quality aftermarket only for non-critical hardware like surface-mounted strike plates that don’t affect the security or warranty.
- 5
The lock is tested, not just worked on. We cycle the key, throw and retract the bolt, check the door for alignment and drag, and make sure the key inserts and removes cleanly at both settings.
- 6
You get a documented photo record. Before, during, and after. Every visit ends with a written scope and the photos, so there is a record of what was found and what was done. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work - if it’s not done right, we make it right.
What Abloy Emergency Locksmith Costs in New York City
Honest numbers, in writing, before the truck moves:
- Abloy lockout, no parts needed: $95-$165 depending on time of day and borough. If the lock can be picked, opened with a bypass tool, or shimmed without drilling, this is the range.
- Broken key extraction from an Abloy cylinder: $85-$140 on top of the service call, assuming the broken piece comes out without cylinder removal. A new OEM key adds $18-$35 per key when a code is available, more if we decode from the lock.
- Drilling and replacing an Abloy cylinder: $180-$320 including labor and a new cylinder. Abloy cylinders can’t be re-pinned, so when they fail catastrophically, replacement is the only road. We’ll tell you if the existing cylinder can be rebuilt before any drilling starts.
- Full Protec2 deadbolt replacement: $240-$410 installed, depending on hardware and finish. That includes the deadbolt, the Abloy cylinder, tailpiece, strike, and labor.
What moves the price: whether we can pick or bypass the lock rather than drill, whether the cylinder needs to go back to the bench, the time of night, and the borough. What does not move the price: what the technician feels like charging when he sees your street. The quote is the quote. Call (331) 310-8471 and ask for the written number - estimates are free, and there’s no surcharge added on arrival.
Why New York City Homeowners Call Novak Lock & Security for Abloy Work

Most locksmiths in New York City can install an Abloy lock. Fewer can open one without cutting it. Ours can - and when we do drill, we can tell you exactly why before the bit touches metal. Daniel Novak has worked Abloy, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Schlage, and Kwikset cylinders across the five boroughs for going on two decades, and the name on the van is the same name on the invoice. Every technician who shows up at your door is background-checked, uniformed, and working under The Haven Standard - the same documented quality framework applied across all ten Haven brands. We service the full brand spectrum, so if your Abloy deadbolt is paired with a Kwikset knob or a Medeco rim cylinder on the service door, one call covers the whole job. And because we are an independent Abloy service provider - not a factory-authorized dealer - our first recommendation is what’s right for the lock, not what moves a sales quota.
FAQs
A general locksmith can install an Abloy lock, but opening or repairing the Protec2 series requires specific training and tools. The rotating disc mechanism isn’t pickable by standard pin-and-tumbler methods, and drilling one carelessly trashes the cylinder and often the door. We recommend calling someone who can name the model line when you describe it and quote you a price in writing before dispatch. Call (331) 310-8471 for an exact quote on your specific Abloy hardware.
If your Abloy hardware is under factory warranty and doesn’t involve an emergency, the warranty path is to contact Abloy directly for service. Our emergency work uses OEM Abloy parts where it matters - cylinders, tailpieces, keys, disc components - and we document every job with a photo record, which helps if you need to file a warranty claim later. We’ll tell you upfront if a repair is likely to affect a warranty, and recommend the warranty route when it’s genuinely faster or cheaper for you.
Our service vehicles carry OEM Abloy key blanks, disc spacers, tailpieces, and a range of common Protec2 and Sentry cylinders. Niche finishes and uncommon deadbolt lengths sometimes require a parts run or next-day hardware order. We tell you which situation you’re in before we start, and the loaner cylinder option keeps your door locked while the correct part arrives. The price for the whole job, including any parts run, is still in writing before we begin.
In most of New York City, we can have a technician to you within 45 to 90 minutes of the call. Borough and traffic are the real variables - a Midtown lockout at 3 p.m. looks different from a Riverdale lockout at 3 a.m. The dispatcher gives you a real arrival window when you call, not a vague “on the way.” And the price is fixed before the truck leaves, no matter how long the drive ends up being.
If the cylinder binds but the key is intact and the hardware is under about a decade old, cleaning and rebuilding is usually the better call - it’s cheaper and keeps your existing key system intact. If the cylinder has been drilled, the tailpiece is worn past spec, or the lock has taken floodwater, replacement with a new Abloy cylinder or full deadbolt makes more sense. We’ll show you the condition of the parts when we open it up, and quote both repair and replacement before any work starts. Call (331) 310-8471 and we’ll walk through your situation on the phone.
