Schlage Emergency Locksmith in New York City: What to Know First
We provide independent Schlage emergency locksmith service across New York City, typically arriving within 45 to 60 minutes for lockouts, broken keys, and failed deadbolts. The price you’re quoted on the phone is the price on the invoice - Haven Standard Clause 1 - and that rule has not changed since Daniel Novak founded this company in 2002.
This page is for homeowners in New York City who own Schlage locks or deadbolts and need a technician who can name the model, diagnose the failure, and state the repair cost before touching the door. Most Schlage emergency work is completed on the first visit, and every job ends with a photo record and a written scope of work. If you’re locked out right now, call (331) 310-8471 and a live person answers.
How Schlage Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- B60/B62 deadbolt stuck in the locked position. The B60 Series is the most common Schlage deadbolt in New York City brownstones and prewar apartments. The typical cause is a tailpiece that has slipped out of the retracted position inside the bolt housing, usually after years of the thumbturn being forced against a misaligned strike. We remove the interior assembly, reseat the tailpiece, and test the throw under load. If the bolt has been cranked hard enough to warp, we replace it with an OEM Schlage bolt that day.
- F-Series knob or lever spinning without retracting the latch. On the F51 and F58 models, the spindle can round off inside the chassis after heavy use, especially on apartment entry doors that have seen tenant turnover. The fix is a chassis swap, not a lube job. We install an OEM Schlage chassis and retain your existing trim so the door’s finish still matches.
- Schlage Connect (BE469) deadbolt jammed mid-cycle. The Connect series uses a motorized bolt that can bind when the door swells in humid New York City summers, particularly in prewar buildings without central air in hallways. The bolt’s travel gets measured against the strike, and the fix is usually strike realignment plus a recalibration of the motor’s travel limits. We do this without factory resetting your Z-Wave network unless absolutely necessary.
- Key broken off in a Schlage Primus or Everest cylinder. Schlage’s Everest and Primus lines use side pins and check pins that make them resistant to picking, but they also make broken key extraction more technical than on a standard Kwikset. We use spiral extractors and, when the key is wedged against the check pin, remove the cylinder and strip it on the bench. No drilling on these lines unless the cylinder has already been compromised.
- Encode smart lock battery failure with no physical key backup. The Schlage Encode (BE489) uses Wi-Fi and burns through four AA batteries faster in cold New York City winters. If the batteries died and you don’t have the key override on you, we can provide a non-destructive entry using bypass tools specific to the Encode’s cylinder configuration, then replace the batteries and re-test the thumbturn’s free movement before we leave.
Our Schlage Emergency Locksmith Process

- 1
You call, a live person answers. That person collects the address, door location, and the symptom in plain language - locked out, key broken, deadbolt won’t turn.
- 2
We quote a firm price on the phone. The dispatcher gives you a single number for the service call and any expected parts, before a technician is dispatched. The technician is not permitted to change that price on the doorstep.
- 3
The technician diagnoses the specific Schlage hardware. We identify the series, check the bolt throw, strike alignment, and cylinder condition, and name the part that failed. You hear the part name and the repair option before we open a tool bag.
- 4
Parts decision is stated in writing. If a part is needed, we tell you whether we’re using an OEM Schlage part or a quality aftermarket equivalent, and why. The choice is yours, with the cost stated before work starts.
- 5
The repair is completed and tested. We cycle the lock, check the throw extension, and test with your key plus any smart functions if applicable.
- 6
You receive a documented record. Photo evidence of the work, a written scope, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, we make it right.

What changes the price is the lock series, the number of cylinders, and whether any hardware must be replaced. We do not add a call-out surcharge on arrival. Why New York City Homeowners Call Novak Lock & Security for Schlage Work

We have installed or serviced more than 60,000 locks, keys, and systems since 2002, and every one of them started with a written price. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and when they work on a Schlage lock, they can tell you whether the problem is the chassis, the bolt, the tailpiece, or the strike - and what it costs to correct each one. We carry OEM Schlage replacement parts and quality aftermarket equivalents, and we also service Kwikset and Medeco hardware, so the estimate you get reflects the right part for the job, not just the part on the truck.
Every visit includes a documented photo record and a written scope of work, and every repair is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right. The name on the van is the same name on the invoice - Daniel Novak has been working New York City doors and deadbolts since learning the trade at Queensborough Community College and apprenticing under a retired Midtown locksmith. Since 2002, our dispatcher has quoted a firm price on the phone and our technicians have been prohibited from changing it at the door. That single rule is the reason people call us back.
FAQs
Yes. We do same-day Schlage emergency work and most calls are completed within the same visit. Night emergency calls can be scheduled as late as needed - call (331) 310-8471 with your location and a live person answers, 24/7.
Yes. The price you’re quoted on the phone is the price on the invoice, under Haven Standard Clause 1. The technician who arrives is not permitted to change that price at the door. We state the part, the labor, and the total in writing before any work starts.
We use OEM Schlage parts when available and appropriate, and quality aftermarket equivalents when they match or exceed the original specifications. We tell you which option we’re recommending and why, and the parts cost is included in your written estimate before work starts.
Generally, the mechanical warranty on a Schlage product is not tied to who installs the replacement part, but some electronic models have specific terms. As an independent Schlage service provider, we document every step with photos so you have a clear record for any warranty claim. If you have a specific model and want to check the warranty language, we can review it with you on the phone before you commit to any repair.
It depends on the series and the failure mode. A B60 deadbolt with a failed tailpiece or a worn bolt is almost always worth repairing, because the housing itself is solid. An F-Series knob with a stripped spindle is usually worth a chassis swap. If the housing is cracked, or the faceplate is bent or missing, we’ll say so plainly and tell you what replacement costs. You’ll get that recommendation in writing before we start.
